From the guest house in Edinburgh, it is only a fifteen minute walk to Edinburgh Castle where there are literally hundreds of years of history to enjoy, along with stunning views over Edinburgh. The castle is at the top of one of the lovliest, and oldest, streets in the world, known as The Royal Mile, which runs between the castle,at the top of the hill, spreading down to the Palace of Holyrood House at the bottom. On the way down there are loads of interesting places to visit such as St. Giles Cathedral and the dwelling place of one of it's more widely known preachers John Knox. while just 200 yards further down the hill, away from the Sherwood,is Princes Street, home of the Scott Monument, and one of Scotland's premier shopping streets. The Sherwood guest house is in Edinburgh's Newington area which boasts numerous excellent restaurants, cafes, bars, lovely walks through residential areas to holyrood park, and great Edinburgh Accommodation. We are just 5 minutes walk to the nearest golf course, the commonwealth pool, and the Queens Hall. The Sherwood, our lovely 4 star Edinburgh guest house, is a fully renovated Edwardian 'B' listed building. Built in 1832 it retains most of the original features and character ( but with modern heating & plumbing ) of a Georgian town house. In those days Newington was the "up and coming" suburb for the fairly "well to do" merchants in Edinburgh. The house was first registered to a young lady, the daughter of a tea merchant. This was a bold move for it's day as women did not have equal rights or anything like it, but we like to think we have retained that spirit of boldness with our decor and soft furnishings. For Information about Golf in Edinburgh, the Edinburgh International Festival and most other festivals just click on the links. At the Sherwood, we offer great value, traditional bed and breakfast accommodation and we are extremely well positioned for visits to Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood House, the new Scottish Parliament, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and all other Edinburgh Festival events. Why pay hotel or motel prices when we can offer luxury, 4 stars quality lodgings at such reasonable rates at the Sherwood, our Edinburgh Guest House. Parking - The Sherwood has a small private car park which we operate on a 1st come basis. There is however ample free on-street parking close to the guest house. So whether it is for a rugby weekend break, any type of Edinburgh Weekend Break, some time off during winter,a festive Hogmanay special, or just a base to visit Edinburgh and some of Scotland, the accommodation options at the Sherwood with our en-suite family, twin and double rooms will service all your accommodation needs. Maybe you have decided to come back to Scotland or come over for the first time to be part of Homecoming Scotland which has events taking place from 25th Jan - 30th Nov, whatever your reason make us the base for your stay in Scotland. Today is If you are still reading when you get to here you'll find that this little bit mostly changes on a daily basis with little bits of hopefully useful information It was a lovely morning with the sun melting away the overnight frost to leave the city looking shiny and new. Much like the road works that are abounding in the city centre. Someone is making out like a bandit in Edinburgh cos we are returning to trams, ie buses that cant steer in our major streets. Thankfully most visitors come to look at the scenery which isnt realy blighted by the bollards. While the sun is shining the wind factor brings a definite chill to the atmosphere and warm clothes are still recommended. It is however warm and toastie in our wee guest hoose and we are in a position to cater for guests once more, so what are you waiting for? Git yir erses up ( or doon ) to embra and get the best deal in town @ the Sherwood While the hon Broon p.m. is doing his best both here and giving the new president some words of wisdom(?) there is no denying that Scotland is in a recession and the pound diving against almost all other currencies. We dont think you'll get a better deal anywhere else in Edinburgh. I've added a wee sykpe bit at the right hand side of this ramble. It appears to work ok but i'm not putting it in too prominent a position just yet as some of the calls come at a very inappropiate time. I've been writing a little program again to allow our guests to book on-line and while it isnt perfect ( or anywhere close ) its worth a wee try as it is supposed to be secure, at least thats what my ISP says. It appears to be working again after a few emails went straight to trash & were lost to us. Any time is a great time to visit our wonderful wee city but if you come now you wont avoid the crowds but you'll still get some of the best deals in town. Get yirself up to Edinburgh and get booked into the Sherwood. We have some great rates and our Edinburgh availability checker should help you plan your early visit, or if you plan a later visit to Edinburgh you should take advantage of our special offers while they are still available. Remember here at The Sherwood we will always strive to bring you the best value for money in town. There is a PC in the dining room ( which works most of the time ) for guests use between the hours of 10.30 & 22.00 and a wireless network which can usually be used from all guest rooms. Due to the unpredictability of computers we never guarentee this to be always on but we do try to keep the PC & network running all the time.
